Who We Are

Gettysburg College

The Gathwait Leadership Center (GLC) is an endowed co-curricular leadership development program at Gettysburg College. Named after our benefactor, College emeriti trustee, and third generation business owner Bob Garthwait, Jr ‘82, we offer a wide variety of experiential learning opportunities for students, employees, alumni, and external groups to help leaners develop the skills and dispositions to lead for public purpose. Our team of four (4) full-time professionals, 20+ student leadership educators, and more than a dozen trained volunteers bring deep knowledge and expertise in facilitation, coaching, and outdoor experiential learning to serve hundreds of learners and scores of groups each year.

Program

Through an immersive, cohort-based experience, participants develop leadership skills across three critical levels.

At the self level, leaders deepen their emotional intelligence, clarify personal values, and build sustainable practices that support resilience and intentional action.

At the team level, participants strengthen their ability to communicate effectively, listen at deeper levels, navigate conflict, and understand group dynamics to build high-functioning, inclusive teams.

At the organizational level, the program explores vision & purpose; adaptive leadership; intercultural competence; and the role of active citizenship in shaping thriving organizations and communities.

Feel Connected

“A local leadership program provides a lot of value to our organization by creating opportunities for growth, networking, training, and unique community experiences that cannot be provided at work. There have been successful leadership programs in other nearby communities and being part of a new initiative here in Adams County will not only benefit individual organizations but will also provide benefits to our entire local community.”

Steve Rasmussen, CEO/GM

Adams Electric Cooperative, Inc.

“We are particularly drawn to this initiative because it brings together business leaders in a structured, cohort-based experience that is both practical and community-focused. The combination of hands-on learning, coaching, and peer accountability creates a more meaningful leadership experience than traditional classroom models.”
